Call for Speakers!!!

Have you been an adjunct professor?  Reviewed books for a professional publication?  Presented at a conference or joined a professional committee?  Would you like an opportunity to share your experience with your peers?  If so, then this is your chance!  

YASD is looking for volunteers to speak at the "Career Booster" Joint Meeting being held on  Thursday, February 2, 10am, at SCLS. We would like the meeting to focus on the above mentioned aspects of boosting your career.  This is a great opportunity to share your experiences and help others.  If you are interested in becoming a speaker, please contact Casey Fehn at casey@myrml.org.

Annual December Luncheon!

Our Annual December Luncheon will be held on Thursday, December 1st, beginning at noon at the Outerbanks Restaurant in Riverhead. The speaker will be Nova Ren Suma, author of The Walls Around Us, The Imaginary Girls, 17 and Gone, and more!  The menu includes a chicken, fish, and pasta vegetarian option.  Exciting prizes will be raffled and you will be introduced to the 2017 YASD Board.  You can register online here or fill out the below form and send it to Casey Fehn. Description: Superintendent of Patchogue-Medford Schools, Michael Hynes, will be discussing the challenges of Common Core and what librarians can do to help.  He will also be speaking about effective partnerships libraries and schools can form to best assist both the teachers and the students in today’s learning environment.

 Announcing the Nassau/Suffolk
B.E.S.T. AWARD 2016
(Bringing Excellence in Service by Teens)

Purpose:
To honor significant contributions by a teenager to library services.
Award:
A commemorative plaque will be awarded to one teen in each county.
Each award recipient will also be given a $150 stipend.
Requirements:
·         Be a Nassau or Suffolk County resident.
·         Be a volunteer, employee or other affiliate of any library-related organization.
·         Have a library sponsor.
·         Submit a sponsor recommendation that demonstrates significant contribution to
library services.
·         Must be between 13 and 19 years of age.

Deadline:
Applications may be submitted beginning Monday, March 7, 2016 and must be received
no later than Monday, April 4, 2016. Applications should be sent to:
