YASD January Meeting


The Young Adult Services Division of the Suffolk County Library Association is happy to be kicking off our 2014 program schedule with a visit from a few members of The Horror Writer's Association on Thursday, January 9th, from 9:30-12:00 pm at Sachem Public Library. YA authors Charles Day (Kyle McGerrt Trilogy, Legend of the Pumpkin Thief) and Tonya Hurley (Precious Blood, Ghost Girl Series, Passionaries of The Blessed Trilogy) will discuss the HWA and its many connections to young adult readers and the services it has available for the Young Adult Departments of public libraries in Suffolk County.

YASD's Third Annual Teen Librarian Awards_Nominate a Librarian today!

Thank your colleagues and fellow librarians for their service to teens and recognize their efforts by nominating them for a Teen Librarian Award  

Each nominee will be recognized and the recipient of each award will be presented with a plaque at the YASD Annual Author Visit Thursday,December 12.

Lit-Fest 2013

Lit-Fest is an annual event presented by Nassau Library System, and co-sponsored by the Long Island School Media Association and Adelphi University, with the cooperation of the Children’s Services Division of Nassau County Library Association.
  
It will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 8:30am-3:30pm and the two guest speakers are Tom and Margaret Peterson Haddix.

The Long Island Library Conference, sponsored by the Suffolk County Library Association and the Nassau County Library Association was on Thursday, May 2 at the Melville Marriot! Suffolk YASD welcomed author Patricia McCormick as the guest of honor during Session 3 the day of the Conference.

Suffolk County SPCA Hurricane Sandy Drive

In New York City and on Long Island, the ASPCA has rescued more than 300 animals and treated or provided supplies to about 13,000, due to Hurricane Sandy. The Hampton Bays Public Library, along with the help of the Suffolk County libraries, would like to continue to provide supplies to pets that are being placed in mobile units due to this devastation.

Kindly donate dry or canned food for cats and dogs at the 
YASD meeting on Thursday, January 10, 2013.
